Fine

They told me you were sick
Cancer makes you think of death
But it doesn’t always mean that, they said
So I prayed, but I thought that you were fine

They told me you had gotten worse
The community gathered around you
Together we paid for your treatment
So I prayed, but I thought that you were fine

They told me you were getting worse again
But when you went into hospice
How could I know that meant the end was near
So I prayed, but I thought that you were fine

They told me you were gone
I didn’t think the day would come
I thought your family needed you
But for the first time, I knew that you were fine

They told me your funeral was Thursday
I watched your hurting husband and children
I did not know how to comfort them
So I pray that they are fine
